Presbyterian Church (USA)

Trinity is part of the Presbyterian Church (USA), the largest Presbyterian denomination in the country.  The PCUSA, with denominational offices in Louisville, Kentucky, has approximately 2.3 million members, more than 10,000 congregations and 14,000 ordained and active ministers.

Presbyterians emerged during the Protestant Reformation of the 16th Century.  While sharing with other Christians those foundational truths, described in the Apostles’ and Nicene Creeds, our heritage as a Reformed church is based on the teachings of John Calvin and John Knox.

Here are core convictions that Presbyterians emphasize:

•    The sovereignty of God; in all things God is working out His good and glorious purpose.
•    The infallibility of the scriptures as our guide to faith and life.
•    A realistic assessment of the pervasive effects of sin, which necessitates our mutual accountability as disciples, and need to balance power within organizations.
•    The incredible grace of God in Jesus Christ, which brings forgiveness and yields spiritual maturity.
•    Our stewardship of everything entrusted to us by God for His glory.

Trinity is a member of the Central Florida Presbytery, which is one of the 173 Presbyteries making up the PCUSA. Our Presbytery has 77 congregations and more than 29, 210 Presbyterians in 10 counties.  The Presbytery’s mission is:

To equip, strengthen, and support congregations in their ministries in service to Jesus Christ and

To unite congregations in discipleship, mission, and fellowship in order to work together to accomplish the tasks that no one congregation can accomplish alone.

Purpose-Driven Presbyterians® Network

After becoming far more effective as a Presbyterian congregation by adapting Rick Warren’s purpose driven strategy, our pastors began to teach seminars to other Presbyterian leaders.  In 2003 Trinity Church began offering the Presbyterians Seeking Purpose-Driven Ministry Conference on an annual basis, and has gathered a network of Presbyterian congregations that give each other mutual encouragement as they pursue faithful innovation.

New Wineskins Association

Trinity is also affiliated with the New Wineskins Association of Churches. These 180 Presbyterian churches are unequivocal in their support of Biblical ethics and the essential beliefs of the historic Reformed faith.  While traditional in theology, New Wineskin churches tend to be innovative in developing ministries that transform lives in this post-modern world.

Presbyterian Global Fellowship

The Presbyterian Global Fellowship is an international network of churches seeking to shift from the mindset of mission as sending a few missionaries, to becoming a community of people living out God’s mission locally and globally.

One of the practical implications of becoming a more missional church is that we strive not to consume all of our members’ free time with church activities.  Beyond gathering weekly for worship, we try to involve Christ’s disciples only in those activities that are necessary for fellowship and growth, so they have time and energy to minister to others in the church and community.
